UseIt is live: every card benefit, every expiry, one place

September 26, 2026

Today we're launching UseIt, a free tracker that keeps all your credit card benefits, their reset dates and your anniversary certificates in one place, so the value you pay for actually ends up in your pocket.

This is the first post in our new News section, so it seems like the right place to explain what UseIt does, why it exists, and why we think it matters more than most people realize.

Credit card rewards have quietly become complicated

A decade ago, a premium card's value was mostly simple: earn points, maybe get lounge access, pay the fee. Today, many cards come loaded with a long list of statement credits and perks, including dining credits, rideshare credits, streaming credits, airline fee credits, hotel credits, shopping credits and free night certificates.

On paper, that's great news. Plenty of premium cards advertise benefits worth well more than their annual fees. But there's a catch that issuers don't tend to put in the headline: most of that value only exists if you remember to claim it, on time, in the right way.

And each benefit plays by its own rules:

  • Monthly credits that disappear if you don't use them before the month ends.
  • Quarterly and semi-annual credits that reset on calendar dates you're unlikely to have memorized.
  • Anniversary benefits and certificates tied to the date you opened the card, which is different for every card you hold.
  • Partial-use credits that can be spent in pieces, leaving small balances that are easy to forget.
  • Spend-threshold benefits that only unlock after you've put a certain amount on the card.

Hold one premium card and it's manageable. Hold two or three, and you're juggling dozens of separate deadlines a year. Hold more than that, and keeping track becomes a part-time job.

Why it's so easy to let them lapse

Unused credits don't send you a bill. There's no late fee, no warning email, no red notification. The money simply stops existing at 11:59 PM on the last day of the period, and nobody tells you.

That silence is the problem. A $15 monthly credit feels too small to worry about in any single month, but missed every month it adds up to $180 a year. Let a $50 quarterly credit slip a few times and you've lost more than many cards' entire annual fee. Multiply that across a wallet of cards and the losses become real money, often hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year.

Many people try to solve this themselves with a spreadsheet, a notes app or calendar reminders. These work for a few weeks. Then an issuer adds a new credit, changes a reset date, or you open another card, and the system falls behind. Worse, a spreadsheet can't tell you what's urgent. It won't warn you that something expires tonight. It only helps if you remember to open it.

Why we built UseIt

UseIt started exactly that way: as a sprawling spreadsheet with a tab for every card and a row for every credit. It looked organized, but it wasn't. Credits reset on different schedules, some could be used in pieces, some depended on card anniversaries, and by the end of the year it was impossible to say with confidence which credits had been used and which had simply expired. You can read the full story on our Why UseIt? page.

The conclusion was simple: tracking card benefits reliably shouldn't depend on memory. So we built the tool that does the remembering for you.

What UseIt does

Add your cards, and UseIt already knows the rest. Each card comes with its benefits already loaded, including what each is worth, how often it resets, and which ones follow your card anniversary rather than the calendar.

See what's up for grabs right now. One running total shows how much value is still available this period, with whatever's closest to expiring sitting at the top every time you open the app.

Mark a benefit used in one tap. Used a full credit? Tap it. Used part of one? Enter the amount and UseIt keeps track of the balance. Working toward a spend threshold? Log your progress. When a period ends, the next one opens automatically.

Keep track of anniversary certificates. Free night certificates and other anniversary perks are easy to forget because they arrive once a year on a date unique to each card. UseIt keeps them alongside everything else, so they don't expire unnoticed in the back of your account.

Know whether each card is paying for itself. Every period is recorded as used, partially used or missed. Over time, that gives you an honest picture of what each card has actually returned against its annual fee, so renewal time becomes a clear decision instead of a guess.

What UseIt doesn't do

UseIt doesn't connect to your bank. It doesn't read your transactions or ask for account numbers or logins. It isn't a budgeting app and it doesn't want to be.

You tell UseIt when you've used a benefit, and it keeps the calendar straight. That keeps it private, simple and quick enough to check while you're standing at the checkout.

Who it's for

If you have a single premium card and want to be sure the annual fee is worth it, UseIt will show you. If you carry a stack of cards and have ever wondered mid-dinner whether your dining credit has reset yet, UseIt was built with you in mind.

And with the end of the quarter just days away, now is a good moment to check what's about to expire.
